Milford Community Electricity is a program offered by the Town to provide residents and businesses more electricity supply options and more renewable energy. The program is a Town-vetted alternative to National Grid’s default supply and other third party electricity suppliers.
Anyone can get a lower supplier rate through Milford Basic. Discounts are available if you are a low-income customer. You can also reduce your bill through heat pump discounts. Learn more below.

Participants in the program will automatically receive Milford Standard, the community default, unless they chose one of the other optional products. To choose a different product click here.
Future savings cannot be guaranteed. The additional Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) qualify for MA Class I designation and come only from solar, wind, anaerobic digestion and low impact hydro. RECs are the accepted legal instrument used to track renewable energy generation and to substantiate claims of renewable energy use. Learn more about the product details and renewable energy content here.
If you do not receive a letter, you will not be automatically enrolled. You may join the program by submitting a request to enroll here.
Please note: Customers that opt-out of the program and then seek to re-join, as well as new medium, large and very large business customers joining the program, may be offered a market price, rather than the program price shown in the table above. Such market price will be offered by the electricity supplier in writing, and you will not be enrolled in that price unless you affirmatively accept. The market price will be based on current wholesale prices and the supplier’s costs at the time the you seek to enroll, and the price will be fixed for the remainder of the Town’s contract with the supplier. At the start of the Town’s next supply contract, you will be transferred to the then-current program pricing.

- Low-Income Discount: National Grid in Massachusetts has transitioned to a tiered low-income discount rate, replacing the previous flat 32% discount. Discounts now range from 32% to 71% based on income level and apply to the entire bill, including the cost of Milford Community Electricity supply. Go to this page to enroll.
- Heat Pump Discount Rate: Starting November 1, 2025, most electricity customers with heat pumps will receive a discount through National Grid’s ‘heat pump’ delivery rate. - Winter discount: Reduced delivery rates apply Nov 1 – Apr 30 each year.
- Estimated savings: About $540 per winter (Mass. DPU).
- No impact on supply: Only affects delivery charges; aggregation supply rates stay the same.
- Non-heat-pump customers: Remain on standard delivery rates.
- Enrollment notices: Sent by late Oct 2025.
- Manual enrollment: All other customers need to reach out to National Grid to enroll.
